Talepipe is storyteller Brendan Nolan telling stories and piper Martin Nolan playing tunes in a session that can fill two hours of music and story.

piper Martin NolanMartin Nolan’s uilleann piping has taken him throughout Europe and the UK, India, Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada, from the Lincoln Center for the Arts in New York to the national theatres of Ireland and England and concert halls across the Indian subcontinent.

Respected in the Irish traditional scene, he has also played alongside jazz greats such as Dave Liebman, the late Michael Brecker, Ronan Guilfoyle, Conor Guilfoyle, Tommy Halferty, Michael Buckley and the Boclé Brothers.

Other collaborative work includes virtuoso Hungarian violinist Zoltan Lantos and Japanese performance artist Keiji Heino.

They said:
Martin Nolan’s pipes… caught the eddies, ducking and diving alongside the jazz lines with nervy agility… The wedding of sax and pipes was particularly spectacular.
-- Irish Times (review of Michael Buckley’s Translations)

Martin Nolan is a noted piper and composer whose openness and receptiveness to new ideas has taken him and his pipes around the world.
-- The Sunday Tribune (Dublin)

Well versed in the tradition of his instrument, Martin is constantly expanding its repertoire by playing in unusual contexts.
-- The Event Guide (Dublin).

Brendan Nolan

Brendan NolanBrendan delights in telling stories of Dublin and other interesting places.

His stories are of ordinary people striving to make sense of the humours and perplexities of modern life and their place in it.

A storyteller of some renown, Brendan selects stories from a repertoire of more than 200 collected and original stories.

Brendan has told stories all over Ireland; in Britain, Spain, Belgium, and, in Rome.

In summer 2013, he curated and told stories with six other storytellers in the sold-out Stories of Dublin programme in the city's 1662 Smock Alley Theatre

Brendan participated in a record-breaking marathon storytelling session in Guadalajara, Spain; told stories in a Baroque Theatre in Toledo, Spain; in a Spanish castle; in Dublin's St Patrick's Festival; in the Pan-Celtic Festival in Carlow, Greystones Arts Festival, YARN in Bray and in venues large and small.

Brendan is author of the story collections: Dublin Folk Tales, Wexford Folk Tales and Wicklow Folk Tales and of a collection of his own local stories originally broadcast on community radio: Barking Mad: Tales of Lovers, Liars, Loonies and Layabouts.

He is an approved heritage expert on storytelling in the Irish Heritage Council's school visit programme and brings the craft of storytelling to new generations of enthusiastic storytellers through school storytelling visits.
